10/100 POE Switches

Did you know that most POE powered devices use less than 100 Mbps each? Speaking of IP Cameras in particular, most of them use less than 10 Mbps each. Therefore if you can save money and go for a lower cost 10/100 POE switch over a gigabit switch, then why not do it? These switches are great when you need something simple that will get the job done at a reasonble cost.

All POE ports (the downlink ports) will be rated at 100 Mbps each. The uplink ports on the 4 & 8 port models are also rated at 100 Mbps as the combined traffic for 8 cameras or less usually does not equate to more than 100 Mbps. But what about 16 cameras or more? Not to worry, when the POE ports are 16 channels or higher, these switches will come included with gigabit uplink ports to ensure that the combined traffic from all the POE ports have adequate throughput.
